Schnabel’s Polaroids

Posted by Maurice Ajanaku On August - 24 - 2010

The Polaroid is Dead! This is a sentence which most people would agree with; but with the rise of uber-sharp images in both video and pictures, creatives are dusting the dust off their parents Polaroid camera. This is made apparent with the revival of the Polaroid factory in Enschede, The Netherlands, by The Impossible Project, who provide specially made film for all users. But the question still remains, are Polaroid’s art? This discussion came about last year, when readers of The Moment argued about the artistic merit of Andy Warhol Polaroids. Artist & filmmaker Julian Schnabel, now adds fire to the discussion by realeasing his own series of Polaroids in his book “Julian Schnabel: Polaroids.” The book includes images of his Montauk, N.Y., studio, his family and a series called “Crazy People,” where Schnabel photographed Lou Reed, Placido Domingo, Christopher Walken, the Beastie Boys and Mickey Rourke. The book is set for release and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com.

Flipboard | Your Personalized Social Magazine

Posted by AJANAKU On July - 22 - 2010

As the iPad finds more and more release over the world, we start seeing more and more great new apps. That Social Media, ala Facebook and Twitter, would play a large role in these apps was a given. Take Dejaplay for example, an app where you have your own personalized video library, from all your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Now Flipboard has gone a step further, by taking not only the videos, but all the real time data (links & messages) and placing it on your own personalized iPad Magazine.  The Magazine takes full advantage of the iPad touch screen in its interface, you can even say better than Popular Science and Wired has. Don’t know what I am talking about? Check out the video after the jump. Maybe now the Magazine industry should start getting worried…

Journal de Nimes Nº5

Posted by AJANAKU On July - 20 - 2010

The new Journal de Nimes Nº5 -The British issue- is officially launched today. Tenue de Nîmes came across so many great things from the United Kingdom recently that we could have easily filled 100 pages. In this fifth release we proudly present an interview with Nigel Cabourn at his Newcastle residence, we discuss the Grenson factory visit and also feature a very personal denim interview with Miles Johnson, head designer of the inspiring Levi’s XX department. Add to that a London shopping map, plenty of British Treasures, a brief history of the Duffle Coat as well as a tip of the cap to the 180th anniversary of the legendary (American) brand Woolrich and you will understand why this issue got a little out of hand. written by Matthijs van Meurs | Dyed in Red

AFARAI | A Day in Sao Paulo

Posted by Charlene Austin On July - 12 - 2010

The desire to use the urban environment as a canvas makes one wonder how modern cities are colored; Is that really a Warhol on a electricity pole? And how on earth is that Picasso drawn on a pipe riser? To explore the hidden treasures of the urban landscape, urban design agency AFARAI has published its first book ‘A Day In Sao Paulo’, and chose to capture the imaginative and innovative expressions in the streets of the Brazilian metropolitan.

SKATEBOARDING.3D | Sebastian Denz

Posted by AJANAKU On February - 5 - 2010

Another great place to visit while in Berlin besides STAB, is PRO qm. This book store has it all, from photography books to architecture, from street culture to music, from graphic design to skating and much more. While going through the walls of books trying to find that one gem, my eye went to the bottom corner underneath a table, where I saw a large White object with SKATEBOARDING 3D written on it…. I thought “Can you make Skateboarding more 3D?” The answer is , YES YOU CAN.
