The design couple forming Gudrun & Gudrun are the ladies named Gudrun Ludvig and Gudrun Rogvadottir. They are from the Faroe Island, 18 small islands situated in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway with together 45.ooo inhabitants, and use the isolation from the rest of the world as their spark of creativity. But when they do come out, these wool magicians steal the show.
The ready-to-wear collections are made from the finest Faroese yarn and lambskins. All of the knits are organic and made from 100% untreated and undyed Faroese wool. Each garment is hand knit by Faroese and Jordanian women. Designers Gudrun & Gudrun strongly believe that women empowerment begins with the opportunity for them to earn their own money. They imposed a project supported by the Faroese Government, the women knit from home so they are able to fulfill their domestic duties of their society. Each woman receives training on how to make a micro business. Gudrun & Gudrun want them to believe that they are capable of fulfilling their dreams.
And what better the fashion is there to motivate & continue to stimulate women? [OK, perhaps this is a generalization and we do not like to stereotype the sexes, but I would welcome this type of creativity in my house in the cold days on the islands]
