Nike and (RED) have teamed up to use the global reach of football to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. At the announcement yesterday at Nike Town London, Bono was joined by a host of football mega stars: Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Andrei Arshavin (Arsenal), Marco Materazzi (Inter Milan), Denilson (Arsenal), Lucas Neill (Everton), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Lucas Neill (Everton) and Seol Ki-Hyeon (Fulham).
This partnership will help fund support programs that offer education and medication to those who need it, using football, the biggest sport in Africa, to reach out to youth, and make them aware of the fight against AIDS.
“The fight against AIDS in Africa needs great brands to drive awareness and engagement. Nike is the right partner to connect education with sport, and in so doing help drive social change, prevention and understanding of HIV/AIDS. We are thrilled to have them with us.”
Susan Smith Ellis, CEO, (RED)
“As a global brand and creative company, Nike can play a role in amplifying this important issue. With football as the catalyst, Nike is joining the (RED) movement to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.”
Mark Parker, President and CEO of Nike Inc.
The concept behind the partnership is to have people “Lace Up. Save Lives”, by purchasing a pair (Nike)REDTM laces. One hundred percent of the profits from (NIKE)RED laces will be split equally between The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This is again a great initiative by Nike to help those who need help. So go on, purchase your (Nike)RED laces at http://www.nikefootball.com/RED, for just $5…
