One doesn’t usually equate the words ‘hippie chic’ with the style sensibilities of an edgy Downtown girl. Trust designer Julie Coste and founder of Treasures however to prove otherwise with her Summer 2010 collection that would easily fit into the wardrobe of any discerning fashionista.
Inspired by the decorative art and traditional craftsmanship of Bali (the island of gods), the exclusive collection consists of handbags and accessories with beautiful details and textures such as handcarved leather, intricate beadwork and buffalo horn pendants. Colors used in the collection are reminiscent of lazy summers spent next to the beach with its warm earth tones and refreshing shades of the Indian ocean, like blue grey, indigo and deep purple.
Our personal picks are the hippy chic fringed clutches and slouchy leather hobos — (Ed’s Note:”White handcarved goatskin clutch as an early birthday present? Yes please!” ) Not only do they add that rocker-glam vibe to your wardrobe, consider them as good karma too. Treasures is a brand that is a firm believer in Ethical Fashion as their production ensures child free labor, fair wages, dignified working conditions and certified leathers (recycled from food industries and from suppliers whose animals were raised organically and free range.)
The Summer 2010 collection is available in selected boutiques and department stores across Europe, Japan and the U.S. Check out their site for locations and past collections.
